The Google Threat to MS: Consumers First, Enterprises Follow

Consumer behavior is a big influence on IT shops, and several analysts appear to be saying that Google Pack � overtly targeted at consumers � is just another way for the company to break into the enterprise space. One observer says that while Bill Gates is downplaying the Google threat, IBM took largely the same tack on the fledgling Windows NT � and where is OS/2 now? Web-based challenges to Microsoft's office productivity hammerlock abound, from Google's own Gmail to free calendaring software. Slow logon times are an issue, but an integrated suite like Google Pack aims to obviate some of these problems. IBM is in the mix as well, adopting the Open Document Format in its WorkPlace client package.
